Equipment History

Built by the H.K. Porter Company in 1942 (S/N 7391), Notre Dame & Western no. 5332 arrived at the museum on November 19, 2013. The unit was built for the U.S. Army, however, it is believed that the locomotive actually worked for the U.S. Navy before working at the coal-fired power plant at Notre Dame. The 65-ton locomotive is currently undergoing evaluation in our shop with plans to eventually use the unique switcher on our museum's tourist trains. The unit was donated by the University of Notre Dame and was transported by truck to the museum.
